AimScan

Backup, Restore and Privacy

Your data lives on your device. Here is how to keep it safe.

Where your data is stored

AimScan has no servers and no accounts. Everything is stored on your device: the logbook in a database and target photos as files in the app's private storage. Nothing is uploaded. Read the privacy policy.

Automatic device backup

  • iPhone and iPad: AimScan data, including photos, is part of your regular iCloud Backup or computer backup. When you set up a new iPhone from a backup, AimScan comes back as it was.
  • Android: the database and settings are included in your Google backup. Target photos are excluded, because Android stops the whole app backup above 25 MB. When you move to a new phone with a cable or the device transfer tool, photos come along too.

Backup file

In Settings, Backup you can create a backup file at any time:

  • Backup (without photos): small file with all folders, sessions, targets, shots, firearms, ammo batches and clubs.
  • Backup with photos: the same plus every target photo. Larger, but complete.

The file opens in the share menu. Save it to iCloud Drive, Google Drive, Files or email it to yourself. Settings shows the date of your last backup.

Restore

Tap Restore backup (merge) and choose a backup file. The backup is merged with what is already on the device: records from the backup are added, and records that already exist are updated. Nothing else is deleted.

Moving between iPhone and Android

Device backups do not cross platforms. Create a backup with photos on the old device, put the file somewhere the new device can reach, and restore it there.

Erase everything

In Settings, Danger zone, Erase everything deletes all folders, sessions, targets and firearms from the device. This cannot be undone, so make a backup first.
